Welcome to Wheatlands State School

Children have been learning and playing on Wakka Wakka land for tens of thousands of years. At our rural school , nestled between the regional towns of Murgon and Wondai we acknowledge elders past, present and emerging and  recognise their continued custodianship and connection to the land, waters and community.

Wheatlands currently has an enrolment of 83 students from Prep to Year 6. Wheatlands offers its students a diverse curriculum with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy. Other curriculum areas that are integrated across the curriculum are Science, SOSE, The Arts, LOTE, HPE and Technology. Our school community is supported by a very active P&C Association through fundraising and financial support of curriculum resourcing.

Wheatlands has a unique learning environment. We have worked hard to provide an engaging and supportive learning environment catering to every student’s individual needs. We are continuing to make significant improvements to our Literacy, Numeracy and Science programs to ensure improvement in outcomes for all of our students which was verified by our outstanding results in our Curriculum Audit. Wheatlands State School has introduced the Australian Curriculum in Literacy, Numeracy and Science and continues to develop a school Curriculum Framework, centred on Explicit Teaching to support its implementation contextualised to a small school.

We continue to foster positive social interactions with nearby schools through sporting and social events.

Officially opened on November 17, 1913, Wheatlands State School celebrated its centenary in 2013 and is one of only a handful of small schools left in the district to reach this milestone.
